Now that spring is here, we fully recommend visiting Keukenhof or Kitchen garden.
It is one of the most beautiful places in Holland but also in the World.
It usually opens in mid-March and works until the end of May.
Before becoming one of Holland’s most famous landmarks, this ground was used mostly for hunting.
Later however, a countess named Jacoba van Beieren decided to add a small garden near the kitchen, thus the name “Kitchen garden”.
After her death, the estate was passed along through a lot of wealthy families before ending up in the hands of Baron and Baroness Van Pallandt. They wanted a more organized garden so they contacted architects Zocher. They designed the original landscape and the rest is history.
Even though a lot of different types of flowers are planted in this garden (daffodils, hyacinths, roses, orchids), the famous Holland tulips are the ones which give the most mesmerizing effect. They can be found in 800 different varieties.
According to sources from inside the park, 7 million flower bulbs are planted every season. Also, every year the park has a different theme which helps it stay unique and attract more and more visitors.
Keukenhof provides an amazing day for the whole family. You can relax and enjoy a whisper boat trip around the park, cycle or join a tour led by a professional guide.
There are also events like the flower show where people present their blooms. Furthermore, you can join the Tulpomania exhibition where you can learn how to plant flower bulbs in your own home and also get the chance to christen your own tulip.
