3. Underground Basilica Cistern
If you are a James Bond fan you will for sure recognize this cistern and would never miss the chance to experience it in person. However now the only figures that are allowed to go in the water are the large carp fish that are illuminated by floodlight. Almost all of the visitors nowadays head to the back of the cistern just to see the heads of Medusa in an unusual upside down way.
4. The Grand Bazaar
If you are a first time visitor in Istanbul we are certain that you will head to the very old Grand Bazaar where you can have this unique shopping experience. This building is made out of a very complicated network of passageways and very small courtyards where more than 3000 shops can be found. You can’t even imagine the crowds of 250,000 people that are going through the Bazaar daily!
5. The Topkapi Palace
The last but not least on our list of places to visit in Istanbul is this must visit historical place known as the Topkapi palace. In the past, this was the ruling center of the Ottoman Empire and therefore there are numerous of very important buildings here such as kitchens and of course the famous harem.
It is probably the best place to witness the incredible lives that the Ottoman sultans lead. You can see all the collections of jewelry, armory and just be amazed.
